Almet Farms

Almet Farms Ltd

For over 150 years and through 7 generations, the Metcalf family have been farming in Clarington, first settling near Lake Ontario, west of Bowmanville.

Our dairy herd was established in 1949 and a chicken barn was added in 1966 on our Holt Road farm.

In 2013 we moved our dairy herd to Tyrone on the farm originally owned by John and Eliza McLaughlin. Their son Robert acquired a love of wood and began shaping it into axe handles. In 1867 he decided to build a cutter and this was the beginning of General Motors of Canada. At a small building on our farm, you can stop and view some of the McLaughlin cutters and carriages and the historic plaque recognizing Robert McLaughlin.

In 2020 we built a new chicken barn in Tyrone where we sell farm fresh eggs from our store front at the barn.
